Our school celebrated Read Across America. Each day the student body participated in a Dr. Suess Trivia question and received books to add to their classroom libraries. The student body also participated in a classroom door decorating contest. The first graders decorated our door based on Dr. Suess' book There's a Wocket in My Pocket. The Cat in the Hat came to judge the doors. The first grade door was the winner of the contest! The kids were surprised! Because they won, they got a Dr. Suess cake and ice cream to help with the celebration. What a fun week of celebrating our love for reading!
Last week was a completely wacky week having 2 snow days. Looking forward to a somewhat normal week coming up. Many of you are keeping up on Fluency Folders and I can really see a difference within the classroom! Thank you for taking time to help your child with their reading fluency. We will be having an end of third quarter fluency party for the kids who have been doing their fluency folders. :)
Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up on Tuesday, February 17. Please send back your conference form letting me know if you will or will not be attending the conference. If the date doesn't work for you, I am happy to find another time that would work better. All of the first graders are making great gains and I am excited to share their improvements with you. Secret Valentines are a tradition at Juniata Elementary. Each person in the school draws a 'secret valentine' who they make a homemade valentine for. We will be exchanging these on Friday, February 13. This is the same day of our class party which will begin at 2:45. |
